The book uses wide angle photos, one per page. They are almost exclusively landscape but the vast majority are along the seashore. The thermal features are not covered and that is a shame because they are so colorful. Many scenes are at sunset and therefore dark or with distorted colors.
Having driven both the North and South Islands, I was disappointed that the photos were not as diversified as the country itself. The scenery changes every 40 miles. The beauty of the sheep herds on the green meadows edged in hedgerows instead of fences is unique. Ditto for the fjords seen from an airplane or a ship.
While the book description praises Andris Apse as a photographer, I’ll bet most tourists come back with more inspiring photos.
